Contact Your Campus Parent Ambassador
The Baldwin Elementary Campus Parent Ambassador Program is a volunteer program offered through AISD’s Family and School Support Team (FASST). The CPA Program aims to provide information and emotional support to parents of children with special needs. Additionally the goal of the Campus Parent Ambassador is to help connect you with your special education team, as well as with AISD/community resources. The CPA will host four parent meetings during the year, and bring in speakers who specialize in topics that relate to your areas of interest and concern for your children.
My son is now a seventh grader in the Social Communication Resources and Services (SCORES) program, but started in the Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities (PPCD) when he was three. At age four he received a formal diagnosis of autism. It was an overwhelming time. Navigating through the SpEd system was challenging, and I was unaware of many of the available school, AISD, and community resources. I now have a third grade daughter at Baldwin, and although she has no formal diagnosis, she qualified late in 2018 for SCORES services as well. Even though the CPA is not an advocate for parents or for the school, it is my hope to help if you too are feeling overwhelmed or seeking additional information. I certainly don't have all the answers, but am always learning, have had a lot of experience as a parent of children receiving services, and will always eagerly find the answers for you to any questions you have regarding your special needs child.
The Campus Parent Ambassador Program is still fairly new to Baldwin, and we will continue to shape the program to meet your needs. Having a child with learning differences or special needs can bring challenges and a burden that many people will never fully understand. Connecting with those in your school who do understand, both parents and staff, can help relieve some of that burden. It’s an honor to have this wonderful role, and I hope to provide you with some tools that will help empower you as you guide your child in his or her educational journey. Anyone who wants to share ideas or be more involved please feel free to do so. This is a collaborative effort, and more can always be achieved together!

*For 2020 the program is on hold, however, I'm happy to help answer questions or assist in any way if I can.
